Here’s some resources to learn how to create games in GB Studio.

GB Studio provides online documentation to get started. In particular, the event glossary section is incredibly useful. Bookmark it.

There is a Discord with many helpful people.

Good Overview of GB Studio – Start here to get a feel for how GB Studio works. Note this video is a little old, so the presenter is talking about an older version, but much of the basic information is the same.

Recommended – Pixel Pete’s series of videos walks through the basics of creating a game with GB Studio. They are all short (under 20 minutes). The only criticism is that he packs a lot in – but the thoroughness is good for new game developers. His other videos on pixel art are a good watch as well.

Pixel Pete has a sample game project that shows off how to use variables. Definitely worth a look. He packs a lot of good examples in the game.

Robert Doman is a game developer that shares a good overview of why to use GB Studio. It’s a little long (20 minutes) but offers some good insight on creating a bone fide Gameboy game, and discusses both GB Studio’s advantages and disadvantages. He also has a series of tutorials on specific aspects of GB Studio.

GB Studio Central is a large site with lots of tutorials and pointers to assets. It’s a little disorganized, but there is a lot of good information.

GamesfromScratch has a quick 8 minute video that gives a good overview of GB Studio.

PhinioxGlade has three tutorials on advanced techniques in GB Studio, such as animated tiles.

Here is a great image someone created that shows what the various buttons on an Anbernic RG-35xx using Garlic OS do. There is a similar image for users of the Miyoo Mini Plus using Onion OS.
